Pirna (dpa / sn) - The dams in Saxony are currently well filled.

The meltwater from the past few weeks could be completely absorbed because most of the dams were not completely filled due to the drought last year, as the state dam administration in Pirna announced.

The flood retention basins are currently all fully available and can be used if necessary.

Only the Pirk (Vogtlandkreis) and Eibenstock (Erzgebirgskreis) dams had to be “relieved”.

This means that more water is released from the systems than normal to make room for melt water.

In January, around 14 million cubic meters of water lay in the snow in the catchment areas of the two dams.

After heavy snowfall at the beginning of the year, the snow melt began in Saxony in mid-February.
