Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Thuringian Philologists' Association has asked the state government to vaccinate teachers, secretaries, janitorial staff, social workers, interns and the canteen and cleaning staff of all schools.

«In view of the fact that Thuringia is still the federal state with the highest seven-day incidence value, it is completely incomprehensible that the Thuringian state government opens schools, but sees no reason to protect teachers at secondary schools from vaccinations and the rest of the staff, ”said the chairman of the Thuringian Philological Association, Heike Schimke, on Thursday in Erfurt.

The Philologists' Association is a union that represents the interests of high school teachers.

Thuringia has been offering vaccination appointments for staff in daycare centers, elementary schools and special needs schools since the end of February.

The Free State thus followed an agreement at the federal-state conference to give priority to these groups in the vaccination prioritization.

The resolution not only includes the educational staff in the relevant areas, but also other groups of people employed there, such as the caretaker services, the school kitchen staff or the assistants.

Secondary school teachers have not yet been included in the "High Priority" priority.

Schimke responded by demanding that Saxony-Anhalt announced that teachers of all types of schools would be offered vaccinations from now on.

Other staff in the neighboring country should also be able to be vaccinated against the corona virus with immediate effect.

"Thuringia should definitely follow the example of Saxony-Anhalt," said Schimke.

If the state government wants to enable face-to-face teaching after Easter despite the expected increase in incidence, it must meet its duty of care for the school employees with tests.
