Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The minimum wage for the award of public contracts in Brandenburg will rise on May 1 by around a fifth to 13 euros per hour.
The state parliament gave the green light to the state government on Wednesday with a majority for a corresponding draft.
"With the 13 euro minimum wage, we as the state government are making an important contribution and sending a signal to the economy: fair wages for good work," said Economics Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD).
Every employee must be able to live on wages.
The coalition factions of the SPD, CDU and Greens raised the minimum wage threshold for certain services in the draft.
The goal is less bureaucracy.
The limit was previously 3000 euros.
The nationwide minimum wage is 9.50 euros per hour.
The Green MP Clemens Rostock also referred to criteria for more environmental protection when awarding public contracts.
The opposition left faction called for binding, stricter minimum requirements.
"A higher minimum wage is right," said left parliamentary group leader Sebastian Walter.

The sudden increase in the minimum wage awarded by 22 percent to 13 euros will not remain without consequences, criticized Christian Amsinck, managing director of the Berlin-Brandenburg business associations (UVB).
Small and medium-sized businesses in particular are burdened.
Many medium-sized companies are dependent on orders from the municipalities and the state.
The state government should check exactly how the higher minimum wage will affect them, it said.
