• March 25 will be "Dantedì": Italy dedicates a day to Dante Alighieri

17 January 2020 The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini, approved the directive establishing the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri for 25 March.

"Every year, on 25 March, a date that scholars recognize as the beginning of the journey into the afterlife of the Divine Comedy - explains the minister - we will celebrate Dantedì. A day to commemorate Dante's genius throughout Italy and the world with many initiatives which will see a strong involvement of schools, students and cultural institutions ". 



"One year after the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of Dante's death - added Franceschini - there are already many projects being examined by the Committee for the celebrations chaired by Prof. Carlo Ossola. Dante - concluded Franceschini - remembers many things that keep us together : Dante is the unity of the country, Dante is the Italian language, Dante is the very idea of ​​Italy ".



The proposal of the national day dedicated to Dante Alighieri as well as being the subject of various parliamentary acts had received the support of intellectuals and scholars and prestigious cultural institutions from the Accademia della Crusca, the Dante Society, the Dante Alighieri Society, the Association of Italianists at the Italian Society for the Study of Medieval Thought.
