Berlin (dpa) - In the opinion of Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), Germany must consistently take action against foreign travel in the current Corona crisis.

The minimum is "that everyone who leaves Germany and comes back must then submit a negative test," said Söder on Wednesday in his government statement in the Bavarian state parliament in Munich.

He also emphasized: "And I would prefer that we could come up with a few other measures."

The federal government recently removed Mallorca from the list of risk areas and lifted the travel warning due to the sharp decrease in the number of infections.

This also meant that there was no quarantine for returnees.

This has led to a booking boom, but also to heated discussions.

It was "easy for people to understand and accept," that you cannot book a holiday home or apartment with us, but conversely, you can go on great holidays on Mallorca, said Söder.

"And if the decision then comes, so to speak, that you can travel without any protection concept, then that is wrong."

The federal and state governments agreed this week that all travelers who return from abroad will in future take a corona test, even if they come from a non-risk area such as Mallorca at the moment.

Airlines had promised to test travelers over Easter before returning to the island.
