Handelsbanken has initiated a major reorganization, as SVT has previously reported, which means that the number of local bank branches will be much smaller.

Earlier it was announced that the offices in Sävar, Byske, Dorotea, Åsele and Storuman would be closed.

Now comes the news that Sorsele will lose its last bank branch when Handelsbanken closes its operations there.

This week, customers in Sorsele received the message via letter that the bank branch will close on 7 May and that the business will be moved to the office in Arvidsjaur.

- That's right, we close here in May and the two employees who work in Sorsele move to the office in Arvidsjaur.

The office in Sorsele has previously been under the office in Arvidsjaur, says Ellinor Lundström, county manager for Handelsbanken in Norrbotten.

SVT: How do you think about the service for your customers, perhaps mainly the elderly, now deteriorating in the area?

- Many of our customers have entered our digital solutions.

but it's not just about apps, we also have a telephone bank that you can call.

County manager Lundström says that she herself has not received any direct reactions yet from the residents of Sorsele, but that she has seen on social media that many have reacted to the decision.

More offices can be closed in the county

For Västerbotten, more offices may be closed, confirms the county manager Peter Hansi.

- There may be more who are closed.

But it is an ongoing process where we look at office by office.

But no new decisions have been made, we have the whole year on us.

Municipal councilor Kjell Öjeryd (V) suspected that the municipality's last bank was in the danger zone when Handelsbanken announced plans to close almost 200 branches around the country in the autumn.

- It was the last bank to strike out.

Now, as a priority, we must find a solution for cash management, he says.
