Bremerhaven (dpa / lni) - The Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven have surprisingly clearly defeated the southern table leader Adler Mannheim in the German ice hockey league.

Coach Thomas Popiesch's team won on Wednesday against the eight-time German champions with a clear 5: 0 (1: 0, 2: 0, 2: 0) and remains second on the playoff course in the northern group.

After the last four victories in a row, there was nothing to gain for Mannheim in Bremerhaven.

Dominik Uher (19th minute), Stanislav Dietz (26th) and Miha Verlic (40th) shot the hosts from the Seestadt 3-0 lead after two thirds.

In the final round, Ross Mauermann (54th) and again Dietz (58th) increased to 5-0 in Bremerhaven's 250th DEL game.
