Berlin (dpa / bb) - In a fire in the "Brachvogel" restaurant on the Landwehr Canal in Berlin-Kreuzberg, a man was seriously injured on Wednesday night.

According to initial findings, the 51-year-old man was injured while trying to extinguish the fire, the police said.

He was therefore taken to a hospital.

The man was in the building and noticed a burning smell on the outside wall.

The state criminal investigation department is investigating deliberate arson, the police said.

According to the information, the restaurant burned almost completely.

When the fire brigade arrived at Carl-Herz-Ufer, the flames from the roof had already spread to the entire 200 square meter excursion restaurant, as the fire brigade tweeted during the night.

58 firefighters were busy with the extinguishing work - these pulled out due to the embers in the roof area.

The fire was under control after around two hours.

As a fire department spokesman said, embers were ignited again early Wednesday morning.

The fire brigade had to come again with a fire truck and six emergency services.
