This Wednesday morning, entries are no longer possible in the neoclassical building of the Grand Théâtre, occupied since March 15.

And inside, discussions for a calm evacuation are underway, after the filing of a request to the administrative court by the presidency of the opera.

After disagreements between the prefecture and the town hall, it is time for evacuation.

The situation has changed

On March 15, a group of intermittent and precarious workers from the Gironde, supported by unions, took over the premises to demand the reopening of cultural places, as part of national demands.

Similar actions were carried out in 70 theaters in France.

"The management of the opera house and the city of Bordeaux had set their conditions to guarantee the safety of people and places," the city said in a statement.

They exercise constant vigilance over the safety of staff and the preservation of the exceptional heritage that constitutes the opera.

"

Thursday evening, new occupants took over the premises, causing the departure of the collective and the unions.

"The vast majority of cultural players no longer recognize themselves in this occupation of the Grand Theater which puts this jewel of heritage at risk," said the city in its press release.

The town hall notes that “the initial health and safety conditions” can no longer be ensured and that traffic is “absolutely no longer controlled.

»Reasons why it therefore organizes the departure of the occupants, without delay, this Wednesday.
