Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The number of new corona infections continues to rise significantly in Brandenburg: Within one day, the health authorities reported 650 new cases, as the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

That was just under 450 more than the day before and 136 more than a week ago.

According to the Elbe-Elster district, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the Oberspreewald Lausitz district also rose above the critical value of 200 within a week. Nationwide, this 7-day incidence rose from 113.8 the previous day to 118.8.

With the district of Märkisch-Oderland, another municipality was added, in which stricter corona restrictions apply again because the 7-day incidence was over 100 on three consecutive days.

This means that there are now stricter contact requirements in seven districts and in the city of Cottbus: Only one household and one other person are allowed to meet.

Shops and museums will have to close, but supermarkets, pharmacies, drugstores and other shops for everyday needs will remain open.

The number of currently ill people rose by 200 to 5208. 382 patients have to be treated in hospitals, 87 of them in intensive care units.
