Berlin / Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The employers' association Nordmetall has described the threats from Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) about a possible corona test obligation in companies as overreaching.

"The economy needs neither admonitions nor threats from the vice-chancellor of a federal government that can neither ensure the rapid supply of the population with vaccines nor rapid tests," said chief executive Nico Fickinger on Wednesday.

It has long been known that the companies already offer a large number of tests and are also prepared to expand this offer if possible.

Scholz had previously stated that employees had to be provided with comprehensive and quick tests.

It is central to the success of testing that this is done in large numbers in companies.

If this does not happen, the federal government is also ready to take legal action, said Scholz.

Fickinger said in the event of compulsory testing in companies: “Such behavior (...) could ultimately lead to employers and trade associations being no longer available for agreements in the future if it is foreseeable that they will end up only as Whipping boys should serve. "
