Hill said that anti-Asian assaults have "definitely intensified since last year."

He said the New York City police have worked hard to increase patrols in Asian communities throughout the city.

"In different parts of New York City, whether it's Chinatown or Lower Manhattan, whether it's Flushing or parts of Brooklyn, you will see uniformed police officers and some people who might surprise you." Xi Er said.

He pointed out that more plainclothes police officers will be redeployed, "If people bravely speak up, we will show up."

But Hill did not provide further details about the deployment. The police stated that "for security reasons, staffing issues will not be discussed."

Even though demonstrations against Asian-Americans continue, attacks involving Asian victims continue to occur, including a woman who was attacked on the way to the demonstration on the 21st.

Police said the 27-year-old suspect De Oliveira has been arrested and charged with a hate crime.
