Frankfurt (dpa / lhe) - The state government wants to inform on Wednesday about midwifery courses at the Hessian universities.

In this country, the universities of applied sciences in Fulda, Frankfurt and Gießen will take over all midwifery training in the future.

They cooperate with the universities in Frankfurt, Marburg and Gießen as well as their university clinics.

Midwifery training is to be offered entirely in the form of a dual study program by 2023.

The Fulda University of Applied Sciences is doing pioneering work.

There has been an academic midwifery training there since 2012.

Science Minister Angela Dorn (Greens) and representatives of the universities will provide further details in three press conferences on the Frankfurt, Fulda / Marburg and Giessen locations.

The situation of midwifery care in Hessen is quite tense.

As a rule, the demand is significantly higher than the supply.

According to a 2020 report, expectant mothers ask an average of six to seven midwives until they find what they are looking for.
