The decision to take an Easter break in the corona pandemic, which was only taken on Tuesday night, is off the table again.

Many German associations have welcomed the turnaround by the federal government, including the civil servants' association dbb.

"That is sensible government action," said dbb chairman Ulrich Silberbach on Wednesday of the German press agency in Berlin.

"If the government finds out that it has bet on the wrong horse, it has to take something back quickly," said Silberbach.

"That would only have created more chaos."

Basically, the dbb boss called for stringent rules for all citizens in the pandemic.

“We need clear guidelines, rules, guard rails.” Silberbach criticized the fact that the federal-state rounds often passed complicated regulations and that the prime ministers would soon announce a variety of exceptions.

Employer President Rainer Dulger also welcomed Merkel's declaration as a “courageous decision”.

"There is no blueprint for managing this crisis," declared the President of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA).

“I have all the more respect for the fact that the Chancellor has withdrawn the decision.

The chancellor's courageous decision proves her leadership. "

"Courageous to admit this wrong decision"

The German Trade Association (HDE) described the withdrawal as a “signal of reason”.

"In times of Corona, it has to be a matter of distributing the rush of customers and not creating queues in front of the shops through additional closings," said HDE Managing Director Stefan Genth.

The foreign trade association BGA described the government's move as brave.

"Better a horror with an end than the other way around," said Anton Börner, President of the Federal Association of Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services.

"It was brave to admit this wrong decision and to correct it promptly." What is necessary is a clear and, above all, reliable plan for further fighting the pandemic.

"It is now important that politicians in future seek advice from those affected before they make a decision."

"Respect that the Chancellor has taken this step," said Thilo Brodtmann, General Manager of the VDMA mechanical engineering association.

The companies were spared billions in costs due to the days of rest.

In addition, negative effects in supply and supply chains would be avoided.

"Reason prevailed in a difficult situation," said Brodtmann.

The correction of the decision is a good signal: "In principle, the dialogue between politics and business works even under the pressure of the corona pandemic."

The craft association ZDH also considers the withdrawal of the Easter plans to be the right decision.

"The fact that the Chancellor met her so quickly and personally when she took on the responsibility deserves great respect," said the President of the Central Association of German Crafts, Hans Peter Wollseifer.

At the same time, he appealed to all craft businesses to prevent the spread of the corona virus by observing the corona rules and having fewer personal contacts.
