The call for elections in the Community of Madrid has hit the Government of Spain squarely with the decision of Vice President Pablo Iglesias to leave the Executive to be a candidate.

But he also takes the PSOE with a changed foot, without an alternative candidate to Ángel Gabilondo, who will be the one who will repeat as an electoral poster.

But the discomfort generated by these elections has been evident in the criticism that Moncloa has leveled against Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

"Our vocation would not have been a new call to the polls," acknowledged María Jesús Montero, Minister of Finance and spokesperson for the Executive.

"We had never heard Mrs. Díaz Ayuso who was dissatisfied with her coalition. It is a free call, which seems to respond more to partisan interests of electoral calculation."

In the Government they knew that the motion of censure in Murcia, ultimately unsuccessful, blessed by Moncloa, would have replies.

But they did not believe that the earthquake would reach the electoral call in Madrid.

Now the map and the political clock are at the expense of what happens in this community, whose elections are already played on a national basis and will have consequences beyond the borders of the region.

All political leaders and formations are already immersed in the electoral key.

Even the Government, which on this occasion had no qualms about censuring the decision of Díaz Ayuso and separating these elections from those of the Basque Country, Galicia or Catalonia, the other elections held during the pandemic.

"Mrs. Díaz Ayuso had transmitted her confidence in her government, in the pact with Citizens. What happened to call elections? It occurs to me to say that it is an electoral calculation, that she has taken advantage of the situation in Murcia to do something that she had been thinking a long time ago: to be reinforced with an electoral call ", Montero has reflected from Moncloa, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers.

The Government refuses to compare the Madrid elections with the others held in a pandemic because it argues that in Galicia and the Basque Country it was time for them to be held, while in Catalonia the disqualification of Quim Torra and the fact that the Parliament did not reach an agreement to form a new Government they precipitated the election clock.
