Papenburg (dpa / lni) - According to a report in the "Ostfriesen-Zeitung", the cruise ship builder Meyer-Werft will take a two-week break in production from next Monday due to corona.

The planned one-week break after Easter will be extended forward, the newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing an internal letter to the workforce in Papenburg.

A company spokesman said when asked that the shipyard was in talks with the health department of the Emsland district.

On Monday evening, the company announced without any details that it was preparing for “further measures to protect against infection”.

"The infection process, which is beating down on us more and more, shows that we have to take further measures to protect ourselves, although we are already pursuing a comprehensive and very effective pandemic concept," said Managing Director Thomas Weigend.

Due to a high infection rate, night exit restrictions have been in effect in Papenburg an der Ems since March 18.

Meyer-Werft is the largest local employer.

It protects itself through mass tests of the workforce and a hygiene concept, for example the division of the shipyard into different zones.

Nevertheless, there are always corona infections in the permanent workforce and even more among contract workers.

Many employees have to be in quarantine.
