Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) has backed the plans for an Easter lockdown.

"I carry five Easter rest days with full content," wrote Ramelow on the sidelines of the federal-state consultations on the corona pandemic on Tuesday night on the short message service Twitter.

At the same time, the 65-year-old made it clear that from his point of view that alone is not enough.

"On the way there we have to significantly reduce activities in Germany and after Easter we need a show of strength in the pandemic defense with active testing, electronic contact tracking and vaccination," wrote Ramelow.

After hours of talks, the federal and state governments agreed to extend the lockdown in Germany until late at night.

In addition, particularly strict rules should apply during the Easter holidays.

From April 1st to 5th inclusive, i.e. from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday, public, private and economic life is to be largely shut down, as decided by the heads of government of the federal states with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

Only on Holy Saturday (April 3) should the grocery store remain open.

Ramelow wants to inform the cabinet of the results of the switch on Tuesday.
