Düsseldorf (AP) - The North Rhine-Westphalian SPD party and parliamentary group leader Thomas Kutschaty has accused the federal government and the state government of a lack of strategy in the fight against the corona pandemic.

It will be debated whether Maundy Thursday will be closed or not, whether you can drive to the Baltic Sea with a camper or fly to Mallorca, said Kutschaty on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.

The key question is how to get out of the "permanent lockdown stress".

"It's not rocket science to get a long-term strategy to get out of this pandemic and this in and out of lockdown," said Kutschaty.

"That annoys people."

For months, the SPD opposition has been calling for a corona test infrastructure for NRW, especially for children.

"We could go much further and get through the crisis more easily if we finally had the test infrastructure we required."

Kutschaty accused Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) of leading a “sham debate” with the harsh criticism of Mallorca holidays.

"He distracts from his own government failure in Düsseldorf and that of his party colleague and team partner Jens Spahn in Berlin, who has totally messed up these important points of vaccination and testing."

At the same time, Kutschaty announced that the opposition would support the measures decided by the federal and state governments.

In view of the exponential growth of the corona numbers, this is necessary.

"There is no other way we can make ends meet."

The Prime Minister of the federal states and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) had decided to extend the lockdown to April 18 in view of the sharply rising corona numbers and the rapid spread of the British virus variant.

In addition, from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday (April 1 to 5), public, private and economic life is to be largely shut down throughout Germany.

The grocery store is only supposed to remain open on Holy Saturday (April 3rd).
