Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The models planned in Rhineland-Palatinate for the careful lifting of corona restrictions after Easter are an important signal of hope from the point of view of the municipalities.

If such temporary model projects, for example for outdoor catering and culture with new protection concepts and tests, are successful, they could become permanent concepts for more normality across the country, said the managing director of the community and city union, Karl-Heinz Frieden.

"Because the pandemic will determine our lives for months to come."

The Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer, wants to discuss models for a cautious opening after Easter with the municipal umbrella organizations this Wednesday.

How many and which municipalities with an incidence below 100 would be eligible for the model test still needs to be clarified, Dreyer said on Tuesday.

The aim is to test in a few model regions how new infections with the coronavirus can be avoided with testing, vaccination, contact tracking and the analysis of infection routes without closing everything.

The “Luca” app for digital contact tracking could also play an important role here.

The opportunities offered by digital applications should continue to be exploited, said Frieden.

The further development of the Corona warning app to enable anonymous registration, for example in restaurants or at concert events, is overdue.

Whether the registration takes place with "Luca", the Corona warning app or other tools is of secondary importance.

"It is important that the interfaces are available so that the data can be processed easily in the health authorities."
