Cesare Prandelli has resigned as Fiorentina coach just over four months after taking office, the former Italy coach announced on Tuesday.

"I had come here to give myself 100%, but as soon as I felt that it was no longer possible, for the good of all, I decided to take a step back," Prandelli said in a letter posted on the website of the Tuscan club.

"I realize that my coaching career can end there, but I have no regrets and don't want to have any," added the 63-year-old Prandelli.

"In recent months, a kind of shadow has grown near me, which insidiously led me to change my way of seeing things (...) Maybe this world of which I have been a part all my life is no longer made for me, in any case I no longer recognize myself there ", continued the technician, philosopher.

"The club, to its great regret, accepted the coach's request and understood the reasons, which go far beyond football," announced the "Viola".

According to the Italian press, Giuseppe Iachini, whom Prandelli had replaced on November 9, could return to the bench of Fiorentina.

Cesare Prandelli took the reins of the Florentine team at the beginning of November, which he had already coached for the first time from 2005-2010: he then took Fiorentina to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup - the old League Europa - in 2008 and in the round of 16 of the C1 in 2010.

Since returning, the club have dropped from 12th to 14th place, following Matchday 28 which saw Fiorentina fall 3-2 at home to Serie A runner-up AC Milan.

As national coach, Prandelli guided Italy to the final of Euro-2012, lost to Spain 4-0.

Despite his record of service and his reputation, he has never managed as a coach to win any trophy.
