Auggen (dpa / lsw) - Almost a year after the fatal train accident in Auggen (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district), the authorities are still investigating.

The investigations by the Federal Agency for Railway Accident Investigation were still ongoing, the Federal Ministry of Transport announced at the request of Christian Jung, member of the Bundestag FDP.

"There is still no test result."

At the beginning of April 2020, a 100-tonne concrete slab detached itself from a bridge and fell onto the tracks on the Rhine Valley route between Freiburg and Basel.

A Swiss freight train, which was transporting trucks and their drivers, collided with the concrete slab and then partially derailed.

The 51-year-old train driver was killed.

Three of the ten truck drivers on board were injured.

The Rhine Valley Railway between Karlsruhe and Basel is being expanded from two to four tracks.

As part of this work, the bridge from which the concrete part was to be demolished.

After the accident, the railway had to renew the damaged tracks over around 250 meters and replace 1,500 tons of ballast and 680 sleepers.

Overhead lines, control and safety technology were repaired over a distance of 500 meters.

Jung commented on Tuesday: "It is annoying and frustrating, especially for the relatives, that shortly before the anniversary of the terrible rail accident near Auggen, the investigations have still not been completed."

It is still unclear whether it was a mechanical fault or whether it was negligent.

"Unfortunately, Deutsche Bahn AG and the other responsible parties still owe an answer to the relatives and everyone else involved."
