Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The first 32 police officers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were vaccinated against the corona virus on Tuesday.

They belong to the Ludwigslust police station and received the preparation from Astrazeneca, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Schwerin.

The Ludwigslust-Parchim district is currently hardest hit by Corona in MV.

The seven-day incidence there was 117.1 on Monday.

According to the Interior Ministry, around 3,000 police officers with the highest risk of infection are to be vaccinated in the northeast.

"We have to protect those who protect us," emphasized Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU).

"That is also an important step in the fight against the pandemic."

The Astrazeneca vaccine was released in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the beginning of March for priority group two, which includes police officers as well as teachers and educators.

The vaccination campaign for teachers and educators has been going on for a long time.
