Hanover (dpa / lni) - The restaurant association Dehoga in Lower Saxony considers the extended corona lockdown to be a mistake and is concerned about the health of restaurateurs and hoteliers.

"There is now deepest frustration and depression everywhere," said managing director, Rainer Balke, on Tuesday.

"If this continues like this, it is no longer just an existential threat for the company, but also a personal threat."

Actually, many restaurant owners, innkeepers, hoteliers and their employees would have expected an opening at Easter - and thus a perspective of how things would go afterwards.

"After a long time, the companies finally had a feeling of the hospitality industry again."

The disappointment is all the greater and it affects many people's hearts, said Balke.

"People all walk on their gums."

For the Easter business a “huge loss of sales” is to be expected.

Accordingly, the net turnover in the hospitality industry in Lower Saxony amounts to around 20 million euros on an average day - at Easter, at least double the volume can be assumed.

"That means 40 million over five days at Easter, there we are at 200 million euros, which are lost," said Balke.

"This is a huge drop in sales for Lower Saxony, but it is even more existential for the individual companies."

There is also no longer any hope of opening up outdoor catering.

Instead, the industry association is now relying on becoming part of the model projects envisaged by the state and municipalities.

«I hope that we will be involved.

Anything else makes no sense, ”said Balke.

The companies are ready to participate.

Because then there is a perspective, if not immediately for the entire industry.
