Berlin (dpa) - There is no spill on Christopher Lehmpfuhl's canvases.

The Berlin painter puts the colors in his pictures with all his hands.

This opulence gives the two-dimensionality of the painting in Lehmpfuhl's works the depth of a relief; the powerfully modeled colors also transfer their energy into quieter motifs.

With his work, the outdoor painter has accompanied the fundamental change in the center of Berlin.

While the Palace of the Republic was torn down over the years, the empty Schlossplatz was discussed and the Humboldt Forum with its controversial palace facade was finally built, 126 expressionist works were created in the cycle “Schlossplatz im Wandel”.

Lehmpfuhl accompanied this process with his work and made it a document of change over time.

An illustrated book of the same name has now been published.

In 2018, more than 6,000 people took the opportunity to see 37 of the mostly large-format oil paintings from the artist's private collection and from a private collection.

During two “open construction days”, the work in the “Unter den Linden” underground station, which has now opened, documented the fundamental change on Schlossplatz, which can now be traced from Lehmpfuhl's artistic perspective with the illustrated book.
