Munich (dpa / lby) - The Evangelical Church in Bavaria cuts an average of a tenth of the positions.

"We will no longer be able to offer ten percent of the positions because the members have also decreased accordingly," said the head of personnel at the regional church, Stefan Reimers, in Munich on Monday.

"Nobody gets unemployed with us, but many retire."

The remaining positions should, however, be designed to be “more flexible”.

20 percent of the positions are to be filled “across different professions” - depending on which skills are currently needed in the local community.

During the conference, which runs until Thursday, the 108 members of the synod will also deal with the question of the consequences of the corona pandemic for the Protestant Church in Bavaria.

The conference under the heading “Faith in Vulnerable Times” will take place again as a video conference due to the pandemic.

The synod is one of four governing organs of the Bavarian regional church.

It is elected for a period of six years and has extensive powers, decides on the budget of the regional church, passes laws and elects the regional bishop.
