Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, significantly more politically motivated crimes against officials, mandate holders and representatives of parties were recorded last year than in 2019. A total of 79 such crimes were registered after 42 in the previous year, as the Interior Ministry on Monday announced in Magdeburg.

It was primarily insults and threats, and 38 such crimes were recorded.

Around half of the insults were made via the Internet.

Interior Minister Michael Richter (CDU) said that overall less consideration was being given and that the distance was increasingly being lost.

According to the information, 35 attacks were directed against CDU politicians, 18 against members of the SPD and 13 crimes against people with AfD party affiliation.

The figures come from the politically motivated crime balance sheet for 2020, which the Interior Ministry presented on Monday.
