Ludwigshafen (dpa / lrs) - Ludwigshafen is allowed to build the replacement building for the partially demolished ailing Hochstraße Süd in an accelerated process.

"Technically and legally, the planning of the examination by the Landesbetrieb Mobility (LBM) has held up," announced the municipality on Monday evening.

"The new bridge will remain as wide as the old one, but will be safer and quieter," it continued.

A noise-reducing surface and a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour are planned.

"A new high-speed bicycle connection is also being planned," announced the city administration.

It should arise under the new bridge section.

In the case of the also ailing Hochstraße Nord, strict security measures had contributed to the fact that it was likely to remain passable until another street, the city street, was built.

According to the city administration, Hochstraße Nord will be closely examined again in the summer.

Mayor Jutta Steinruck (SPD) assured: "We are absolutely on schedule with our elevated roads."

Several citizens' dialogues are also planned for this year.

The demolition of an approximately 500-meter-long section of Hochstraße Süd had become necessary because, according to structural engineers, it threatened to collapse.

The section resting on mushroom-shaped pillars was closed in 2019 due to cracks in the construction.

Hochstraße Süd and Nord-Trasse are an important traffic axis of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse.
