Ireland: fifteen days of quarantine at the hotel for passengers coming from abroad

Passengers from certain countries will have to undergo a fortnight quarantine at the hotel.

More than a year after the start of the first anti-Covid-19 measures, Ireland has just launched its new quarantine system for passengers arriving from abroad.

From today, some must book a fortnight at the hotel.

The quarantine at the hotel is mandatory from Thursday March 24, but the reservation slots open at the beginning of the week.

€ 2,000 per adult for two weeks in establishments.

This quarantine will not apply for everyone, only for passengers arriving from 33 countries.

Brazil and South Africa, where variants have emerged, Latin America and especially sixteen countries in sub-Saharan Africa, most of which have no direct connection with Ireland: Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde or Zimbabwe.

In Europe, only Austria is concerned.

Variants have sped things up

It's been almost a year since the medical team advising the government has been calling for a stricter quarantine: until now and for all other countries, it is recommended to restrict its movements for two weeks.

The government had to comply because of the variants.

For scientists, the new measure should have included North America, certain countries of the European Union and especially the United Kingdom.

The British variant, responsible for the third wave here, accounts for 90% of contaminations in Ireland.
