Erfurt (dpa / th) - For rail travelers, there will be further restrictions on the route between the Bavarian Bamberg and the Thuringian state capital Erfurt at the end of March.

The reason is construction work on level crossings and stations for the four-track line expansion between Nuremberg, Bamberg and Ebensfeld, announced the Deutsche Bahn (DB) on Monday.

Due to the work, diversions, longer travel times, changed departure times, canceled stops and replacement stops in long-distance and regional traffic are also to be expected in Thuringia.

Construction-related traffic restrictions between Bamberg and Erfurt have been in place since January 8th.

The four-track expansion of the section of the Munich – Berlin high-speed line must be completely closed this coming weekend, from Friday, March 26th until the night of Monday, March 29th, according to the DB.

In addition to the long-distance trains on the Munich-Berlin connection, the Franken-Thuringia Express trains between Bamberg and Lichtenfels and the S-Bahn are also affected.

Long-distance trains would be rerouted, failures in regional traffic and on the S-Bahn would be compensated with replacement buses.

About halfway of the 83 kilometer upgraded Nuremberg – Ebensfeld line is complete.

It is part of the high-speed line from Munich to Berlin.
