Düsseldorf (AP) - Oliver Bierhoff sees no reason to worry about the German European Championship venue Munich, despite the latest statements by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

«I had the feeling that Ceferin just wanted to find out what the situation was like.

Perhaps he also wanted to test the pressure on the respective locations to be really active, ”said the DFB director on Monday at a press conference of the national soccer team in Düsseldorf.

Ceferin had last indicated in the discussion about a possible reduction in the twelve host cities for the Pan-European tournament this summer that the game would only be played in places where the authorities would allow spectators in the stadiums despite the corona pandemic.

As a host, this would currently make Munich practically impossible in view of the infection situation and official regulations.

Bierhoff forbade a rigorous course by the continental football umbrella organization as the host of the European Championship.

“In the end, I think it's important that UEFA accepts whatever rules and regulations are in place in the respective countries,” said the 52-year-old.

According to his information, UEFA continues to plan with all venues.

However, a reduction to a minimum of eight locations is also possible.

National coach Joachim Löw reported at the weekend of the existence of a plan B at UEFA with a tournament in only one country.

The German national team will play their three group matches against France (June 15), Portugal (June 19) and Hungary (June 24) in Munich.

A quarter-finals (July 2nd) are also planned for the Allianz Arena.

Most recently, there had been persistent reports of a change in the tournament organization due to the threat and restrictions caused by the corona pandemic.
