Waren (dpa) - Regardless of the restrictions due to the corona pandemic, the traditional Müritz swimming in Waren an der Müritz is to take place again in August 2021.

To do this, rely on the tried and tested hygiene concept from August 2020 in connection with the Luca app, as a spokesman for the organizers explained on Monday.

Around 400 swimmers have already registered, including last year's winner, 13-year-old Simon Hayer from Falkensee near Berlin.

After the corona lockdown at the beginning of 2020, the Müritz swimming was the first major mass sports event that was allowed to take place again in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

With the Luca app, the personal data are immediately available to the health department if necessary, which would save an enormous amount of paper and time, the spokesman said.

A total of around 500 athletes are allowed to start.

When swimming in the Müritz, participants complete around 1.9 kilometers over the Inner Müritz.

In August 2020, Hayer needed 25: 25.19 minutes and was 26 seconds faster than the runner-up.

The destination, the Warener Volksbad, was closed to spectators due to the corona restrictions.

The district health office decides on the approval in July.

The seven-day incidence in the district is currently 60.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, nationwide at 73.
