After a year of restrictions, the psychological state of the population is increasingly worrying the government.

Cries of alarm from health professionals about the proliferation of depressive syndromes and addictions could lead to new announcements.

Impatience, anxieties, lower morale… Confinement and restrictions on freedoms are not without consequences on the psychological health of the French.

It was the subject of a meeting in Matignon around the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, this Monday.

Between the increase in depressive syndromes and the development of addictions, especially those related to alcohol, measures to fight the Covid-19 epidemic have left deep traces in some people, and the executive is worried about the deterioration of the mental health of the French.

If we are to believe some members of the government, this concern explains the decisions of the end of last week, and the implementation of an extremely light containment compared to those of the spring and last fall in 16 departments, in order to "brake without locking up", in the words of Jean Castex.

From now on, the government wants to set up a refined work plan on this sensitive subject: to take stock of the mechanisms that are already in place and to look at what needs to be strengthened.

Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, offers in particular training in first aid in mental health, in companies and at the university.

Towards new announcements

"This can affect everyone, not just the most precarious," warns a ministerial adviser.

According to our information, the President of the Republic could himself make new announcements on the subject in the coming weeks.

Emmanuel Macron had already made a gesture for the students during a visit to Saclay, on January 21, with the establishment of a face-to-face rate of 20% in universities, and the possibility of benefiting from a "check shrink "for three sessions with a professional.

But the scale of the crisis could lead the executive to ramp up.
