Hanover (dpa / lni) - Despite the increasing number of infections, face-to-face classes will be held again at most schools in Lower Saxony from Monday.

In all regions with a corona value below 100, the alternating model then applies, in which the classes are taught in groups alternately at home and in the classroom.

Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) had confirmed this opening announced weeks ago on Friday, although almost every third region in the country is currently breaking the 100 mark.

The value relates to the new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week.

Exercise week with corona self-tests

From Monday on, comprehensive corona self-tests should ensure more safety in school operations.

A week of practice is planned in which teachers and students can learn how to use the tests correctly before the Easter break.

However, many schools had not recently received any test kits.

By Wednesday only 400,000 tests had been distributed to secondary schools in southern Lower Saxony, the Hanover region and the Braunschweig area.

According to Tonne, how things will continue in schools after the Easter break will be re-evaluated in the coming days and weeks.

Although there are more infections again, the safety precautions in the form of vaccinations and self-tests have also been increased.

The federal-state conference advises again

The question will also occupy the federal-state group, which is to decide on the further corona course on Monday.

While several country leaders have already declared the recent easing to have failed, Lower Saxony's government made up of the SPD and CDU can also envisage model projects with further opening steps, if these are linked to rapid tests.
