Australia: New South Wales hit by worst flooding in 50 years

Australia's east coast was ravaged by fires last year.

This year, the same region is subject to torrential rains, causing flooding and flooding.

It's a real deluge that has been falling for three days in Sydney and its region.

More than a hundred schools are closed on Monday morning, as the rain, the heaviest for 50 years in Sydney, has already wreaked havoc over the weekend: hundreds of houses, thousands of km of road are flooded, and the emergency services overwhelmed.

A heavy toll, when last year, this same region now plagued by floods, was devastated by forest fires.

This is for example the case of the town of Taree, 350 km north of Sydney.

Rosie, one of her residents, confided in ABC radio.

 Everyone is fed up at the end: after the Covid, the drought, the fires, and now this.

It's very hard but we're still here.

And it's not over yet: More exceptional rainfall is expected this week, especially in northern New South Wales, but also in Sydney, where the rain has plunged public transport into chaos and havoc. one of the main rivers, the Hawkesbury, is the highest in 60 years.

Residents are invited to favor telework, and not to try to cross a flooded road.

Scott Morrison, the Prime Minister, gave him his support for the flood victims.
