March 21, 2021 Abdulhamid Dbeibah, new Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya, and Claudio Descalzi, Eni CEO, met today in Tripoli to discuss Eni's activities in the country and areas of common interest and collaboration in renewable energy, circular economy, social projects, access to health and energy, education and vocational training.



The meeting was also attended by Mohamed Oun, the new Minister of Oil and Gas.

Claudio Descalzi confirmed to the Prime Minister the full commitment of the company with regard to operational activities and projects in the country, with particular focus on the development of gas, which is strategic for Eni in its energy transition and for Libya and which will be vital to sustain growth forecast of the country's electricity demand and reduce the use of sources with a higher carbon impact.



Eni is the leading gas producer in Libya and the main gas supplier to the local market, with a share of around 80%.

The company will continue to play a leading role in gas production thanks to new offshore development projects such as Structures A&E, Bouri Gas Utilization and Sabratha Compression. 



"A year ago it would have been impossible to imagine a government of national unity in Libya with which to plan investments and the relaunch of the country. Today it is happening and Italy, having supported the UN path, can be the protagonist", writes the foreign minister. Luigi di Maio, on Fb, after his visit to Tripoli where he met the representatives of the new Libyan unified government led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

"Italy and Libya are united by important geo-strategic interests: in addition to migratory flows, I reiterated that it is essential for us to continue to relaunch economic cooperation between our companies".
