Hardelot, commune of Neufchâtel-Hardelot, soon to be a part of ancient history?

  • Neufchâtel-Hardelot brings together two different agglomerations: a rather rural village and a seaside resort.

  • A committee demands the autonomy of Hardelot from Neufchâtel.

According to the "separatists", Hardelot would develop much better on its own.

  • At Hardelot, enthusiasm seems very measured on the issue.

Hardelot without Neufchâtel?

It would be a revolution: since its creation on a warren bordered by dunes from 1905, the opulent seaside resort is well located on the territory of Neufchâtel, even if the original village center is six kilometers from the beach.

To maneuver these separatist inclinations, around twenty people led by Xavier Lebray, candidate defeated in the 2017 partial municipal election. To seize the prefect, who can then initiate a public inquiry before deciding on a possible separation, the Hardelot's Autonomy Committee must bring together 600 signatories, or one-third of registered voters, on two occasions and one year apart.

Hardelot would go better alone

Their major argument?

Hardelot the seaside resort is physically cut off from Neufchâtel, a rural town similar to so many others in Pas-de-Calais.

“The villages already exist independently of one another, Judge Xavier Lebray.

The main facilities (day nursery, sports hall, etc.) are in Neufchâtel and Hardelot does not take advantage of it.

In addition, the subjects of Hardelot are not treated to their proper extent: coastline, silting up streets, flow management… ”.

Hardelot would gain luster by presiding over his own destinies.

And the opponent to quote these stations today famous which seceded yesterday: Wimereux with Wimille, Le Touquet with Cucq.

Separations dating all the same from 1899 and 1912 ...

The arguments make the mayor, Paulette Juilien-Peuvion, jump up, “In all the cities, there are different neighborhoods.

The population is more or less the same on both sides (3,746 inhabitants in all), even if Hardelot accommodates up to 16,000 people in summer.

I cannot let it be said that there are no facilities on the resort side: it has a tennis court, an equestrian center, a nautical base, a post all year round.

With 30 births in the town per year, we are of course not going to build an additional school… ”The town councilor denounces a debate that is out of tune with the times, while fashion is more to pool costs and means by merging the municipalities.

And the project?

The Hardelot Autonomy Committee says it brought together around 300 signatories.

They weren't in the streets of Hardelot this Thursday morning.

Fear of the repercussions on the taxation of a possible new municipality, project of another age, quarrel of political ego ... the interviewees, who remain anonymous, are not tender.

"I recognize that the two villages are different, but I do not see what such a separation can bring to one or the other", shouts this trader.

A passer-by abounds: “Before talking about separation, we have to talk about a project.

However, there is none today.
