Östersund (dpa) - Franziska Preuß wants to secure a podium place in the overall World Cup on Sunday at the final mass start of the biathletes in Östersund.

The outstanding Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff already has the triumph for sure.

In the men's category, Johannes Thingnes Bö and Sturla Holm Laegreid are still fighting for the large crystal ball.

In the Alpine and Nordic Combined categories, however, the World Cup winners have already been chosen.

In the last race of an exhausting season there is still a lot to do for Franziska Preuss.

For the first time in her career, the 27-year-old from Bavaria made it to the podium in the overall World Cup.

Although the ex-world champion is only fifth with 815 points before the final, both the Italian Dorothea Wierer (4th / 821) and the Swedish Hanna Öberg (3rd / 824) are not far away.

Third place is still there.

While the Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff has already secured triumph in the overall standings, the men are still about the large crystal ball.

There will be a final showdown between the two Norwegians Johannes Thingnes Bö and Sturla Holm Laegreid.

Geiger, who showed weaknesses at the home World Cup in Oberstdorf, would also like to defend his second place in the overall World Cup.

Will the German ski jumpers still make a single podium this winter?

There are no longer many opportunities.

The third from last individual of the season is on the program on Sunday in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.

Katharina Althaus finished ninth on Saturday and is considered the hottest candidate for the jump to the top.

But the international competition for Marita Kramer (Austria), Nika Kriznar (Slovenia) and Sara Takanashi (Japan) seems too strong this year.

The season finale awaits next week in Tchaikovsky, Russia.
