Aspen (AP) - The German halfpipe snowboarder André Höflich jumped to third place at the World Cup in Aspen and celebrated the greatest success of his career.

The 23-year-old athlete from Kempten beat US superstar Shaun White at the season finale in the USA and secured the first German podium in the supreme snowboard discipline in eleven years.

Only the currently outstanding world champion Yuto Totsuka from Japan and his second-placed compatriot Raibu Katayama had to politely admit defeat on Sunday evening.

Three-time Olympic champion White finished fourth in his first competition since the 2018 Winter Games.

Polite had finished seventh at the World Cup a few days ago in the winter sports resort in the Rocky Mountains.

In contrast to the season highlight, the freestyler was able to present his tricks better this time.

Previously, two fourth places had been the Allgäu's best World Cup results - including at the prestigious Laax Open this January.

The last German podium in the halfpipe was achieved by Christophe Schmidt in 2010 in La Molina.

After Leon Vockensperger's second place in the Slopestyle in Laax, Snowboard Germany celebrated the second place on the podium of the winter.

Before that, Silvia Mittermüller had only jumped two places in eleven years.
