Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - The Dortmund police have banned a gathering of anti-vaccination opponents announced for Sunday.

The events in Kassel as well as violations in previous demonstrations against the Corona requirements in Dresden and Berlin led to the decision, as the police announced on Sunday.

The decision is justified, among other things, with the violent actions of protesters in Kassel against police officers and counter-demonstrators.

The events suggested that peaceful expression of opinion was not the goal of the movement, police said.

She also assumes that current hygiene measures are not being followed.

"It is the strength of our constitution that critical opinions can be expressed in public at meetings peacefully and without weapons," said Police President Gregor Lange.

"However, if the assembly violates law and order and there is a threat to public security, it is our task to ban such assemblies," the police chief reaffirmed the prohibition.

According to police estimates, more than 20,000 people demonstrated against the Corona containment measures on Saturday in Kassel.

The court-confirmed conditions of the city, which had actually only allowed 6000 participants, were disregarded.

During an illegal demonstration through the city center, there were violent clashes with counter-demonstrators and the police.
