India: record infections since February

The continuous rise in infections, which today reached the record number for 4 months, is of concern in India.

In September, a peak of nearly 100,000 cases per day had been reached, but since then the figure had been down until the end of February.

Particularly affected in this phase of the pandemic is the state of Mumbai, Maharashtra, where more than half of the new cases are recorded.

The infections reported today by the Indian health authorities are 43,846, and new deaths are 197, the maximum figure in the last two months.

In all, 11.599 million people have been infected in India since the beginning of the pandemic, which puts the subcontinent in third place after the USA and Brazil;

as far as deaths are concerned, so far there are 159,755 and India is fourth in the relative tragic ranking after the USA, Brazil and Mexico.
