Covid-19 The British Government puts London in the maximum level of alert for the Covid
Covid-19 London tightens lockdown for a new strain of coronavirus and international travel banned
Thousands of people have demonstrated this Saturday in central London against the confinement imposed to contain the pandemic in the United Kingdom,
many of them without a mask or respecting personal safety distance.
Among the protesters
were Covid-19 "deniers"
and supporters of conspiracy theories, as well as people who, without denying the existence of the virus, consider the restrictions excessive and counterproductive.
The London Police have not provided estimates of the number of attendees at the moment
or have specified whether there have been any arrests, although the police have taken dozens of protesters.
Since last January, England has been under almost total confinement to contain the third wave of the pandemic, in which it is only allowed to leave home for essential reasons,
travel abroad is prohibited except for force majeure
and only key shops open , although on March 8 the reopening of the schools was authorized.
If everything goes according to plan, on April 12 all businesses will return to activity, with precautions, and the company will gradually reopen until all restrictions are lifted no earlier than June 21.
Today's demonstration takes place after last Saturday the Police harshly repressed an act carried out
mainly by women in tribute to Sarah Everad,
the 33-year-old girl kidnapped and murdered by an agent when she returned home alone in London on 3 of March.
As a result of this criticized police action, more than sixty deputies have signed a letter to the Minister of the Interior, Priti Patel, released today, in which they demand that "expressly exempts the holding of protests from the restrictions" introduced by the pandemic.
The letter, coordinated by the organizations for the defense of liberties Liberty and Big Brother Watch,
requests that the legislation be clarified to ensure that the Police know their competences
and that citizens can demonstrate in all cases, always with respect to safety regulations. to prevent the spread of the virus.
