Gelsenkirchen (AP) - FC Schalke 04 has not yet finally given up hope of a commitment from Ralf Rangnick as the new sports director.

Supervisory board chief Jens Buchta announced after Rangnick's cancellation on Saturday that he would speak to his advisor Marc Kosicke again at the beginning of the week.

"I will certainly sound out everything again," said Buchta on Saturday evening before the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Accordingly, he was informed of Ragnick's rejection by Kosicke in the morning "while refueling".

“I was very surprised, I have to say that,” said Buchta.

Due to the circumstances, they agreed to meet again for another conversation.

Irrespective of Rangnick's personnel, Buchta was convinced that “he will be able to present a new sports director at short notice”.

With a view to the season in the second division at the end of July, the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga will “lose no time”.
