Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The responsible state office is sticking to the tender for 1.25 million fabric masks for the NRW police.

The offer period was extended again to the beginning of April, and deliveries can now also be made in stages.

The tender was on the brink, since in times of medical protective masks so-called everyday or community masks are hardly needed anymore.

The updated tender states that the "number of situations in which the community masks should be worn by the police" has meanwhile "reduced": "The urgency of the procurement measure is no longer necessary."

As a result, 1.25 million masks no longer have to be delivered in one fell swoop.

Interested parties can also attach 250,000 pieces each in five stages by mid-August.

How many providers have thrown their hats in the ring so far is not said by the State Office for Central Police Services (LZPD) because of the ongoing proceedings.

Van Laack claims to be there again.

The textile company had already delivered the masks to the country last year, but the tender was reversed due to formal errors.

Van Laack boss Christian von Daniels said last week in «Spiegel» that the 1.25 million dark masks all bear the NRW logo: «I can't just sell them to Edeka or America.»

Should his company not be awarded the contract in the new tender, it would be "a relevant damage for us, which we would then have to assert."
