March 20, 2021 "The measures and sacrifices are the only card we have to bend the curve immediately".

This was stated by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, speaking at a conference of the Fimp, the Italian federation of pediatricians.

"Today - he added - we have tools in our hands that we did not have a few months ago, for example vaccines, monoclonals, drugs that science is able to make available to the community. We must therefore accelerate with vaccinations, in the first phase the the difficulty was linked to the reduced number of doses. The challenge in the coming weeks will be to bend the curve, vaccinate and build the conditions for a new national health service ".

"We must not waste this crisis. We must invest and change our national health system. Today Europe provides us with the tools, there are the recovery funds. We must therefore strengthen the health service resulting from a great collective enterprise" added the minister .

"We must talk to each other and identify appropriate solutions. The crisis - added Speranza - has hurt us. But now, the awareness of those who have responsibilities is to transform the crisis into an opportunity. The crisis has hit the whole world and it is hard to resist. and fight. Now the challenge is to turn this crisis into an opportunity ".

Speranza stressed that "today people are aware, much more than before and our National Health Service is really the most precious thing we have. Today the conditions are in place to make it stronger and to make our country more capable of respecting the mandate of article 32 of our constitution ".

The minister said now "the key word will be proximity, taking charge. For a national health service that looks after people and takes care of their problems. Doing this means investing in the women and men of our national health service. because in the end, what matters are they who have relationships with others every day ".

"Within this context, the territory becomes the fundamental thing: when a parent accompanies his child to the doctor's offices, he performs an act of trust and we must invest in this. Your study in the territory - said the minister addressing the pediatricians - is a piece of of the national health service, a piece of response to the health demand of our citizens. While we are fighting for the emergency we must plan the health of the future, what is important to us and which must mark the pace of the Italian health service. better resources ".
