Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The Bundesliga and second division footballers have sent an open letter to the German Football Association (DFB) with reference to Gladbach's U23 football coach Heiko Vogel and his verbal misconduct.

This was published on Saturday morning by Alexandra Popp (VfL Wolfsburg) as captain of the women's national team.

Vogel had received a condition for unsportsmanlike conduct towards two assistant referees from the West German Football Association (WDFV), according to which he had to hold six training sessions for a women's or girls' team by the summer.

In the letter published on Saturday morning, the Bundesliga players write: "This judgment discriminates against all women in sport and especially in football."

Vogel's behavior, which Gladbach's manager Max Eberl also called “definitely a mistake”, is in the eyes of the players “far more than unsportsmanlike, but rather insulting and discriminatory”.

Addressed to the DFB it says: "We call on you, as the highest institution of German football, to take a stand and to take action."
