Kiel (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Health Heiner Garg (FDP) has held against Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) hesitation, hesitation and inaction on the subject of corona vaccines.

"We are in such a crucial phase of fighting a pandemic that you have to expect every - also personal - effort nationally and internationally from a head of government so that people can finally live their constitutionally guaranteed freedom again," Garg told the German press agency Bund-Länder consultations on Monday.

"Just trusting that the European Commission would do everything right is not enough."

Garg called for more government financial efforts on vaccine production.

The appointment of a task force by the federal government was "much too late - something would have been wished for a year ago," said Garg.

"Every effort must continue to be made to expand production capacities and support cooperation between pharmaceutical companies."

Schleswig-Holstein's FDP state chairman criticized Merkel's cabinet for having let the Munich Ifo Institute's proposal to create incentives for faster delivery of vaccines with a bonus system come to nothing.

"If we can set economic incentives in an uncomplicated manner, like with a bonus model, then the federal government is called upon to seize every conceivable opportunity."

Together with the vaccine manufacturers, solutions must be found quickly to boost production and improve the reliability of deliveries, said Garg.

"That would also significantly improve the ability to plan in the countries - because reliable delivery commitments ensure more reliable vaccination planning in the countries."

This creates trust and strengthens the willingness to vaccinate in the population.

The Corona crisis is primarily "a procurement problem," said Garg.

"The crux of the whole thing with the vaccination speed in Germany is that too little was ordered too late."

In addition to the common European approach, the federal government did not also ensure that enough vaccine would be available quickly in this country.

At the request of the federal government, the federal states quickly set up an infrastructure for vaccinations.

"In addition, we could switch to standard care more quickly - just as the general practitioners demand - but this requires significantly more vaccine than the countries concerned."
