Grünebach (dpa / lrs) - A kitchen fire in a residential building in the Westerwald community of Grünebach caused damage of around 150,000 euros.

According to the police, the three residents between the ages of 76 and 82 escaped outside.

They were taken to the hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out on Saturday morning.

The investigators suspect that the cause of the fire was that the 76-year-old homeowner had left a pot of food on the stove.

The woman tried in vain to extinguish the flames with a blanket.

When the fire brigade arrived, the residents were already standing in front of the building.

According to the police, the house is no longer habitable for the time being.

Weirs from Betzdorf, Alsdorf and Grünebach participated in the extinguishing work.
