Frankfurt / Main (AP) - Eintracht Frankfurt is on course for the Champions League after a spectacular 5: 2 (4: 2) win against Union Berlin.

Striker André Silva (2nd and 41st minute), Berlin's Robert Andrich (35th) with an own goal, Filip Kostic (39th) and Timothy Chandler (90th + 2) scored on Saturday for the Hessians, who scored 47 points fourth place in the table in the Bundesliga.

Max Kruse (7./45.+3) managed his first double for the Berliners, who remain in seventh place with 38 points.

In the first 45 minutes, both teams offered a rare offensive spectacle.

Six goals in one half had only been scored five times in Bundesliga history - the last time in May 2019 in Bayer Leverkusen's 6-1 win against Eintracht.

Fire was part of the game from the start.

From the very first minute, Union had the chance to take the lead.

Robin Knoche was free to shoot after a corner kick, but Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and midfielder Djibril Sow joined forces to save just before the line.

Almost in return, it hit the Berliner Tor for the first time.

Kostic refueled on the left side, his low cross turned Silva from close range.

Union had an answer ready immediately.

Julian Ryerson prevailed against Hasebe in the penalty area and served Kruse, who hit with a low shot.

The Frankfurters claimed a foul, but after video evidence, referee Markus Schmidt gave the goal.

The guests did not rest on the equalizer, but continued to play courageously forward.

Joel Pohjanpalo (20th), who was temporarily in the starting line-up for Petar Musa, who was injured during the warm-up, dangerously extended a header from Marvin Friedrich.

But again Sow was spot on on his own goal line and cleared.

Shortly thereafter, Trapp was on the post with a Pohjanpalo header.

Ten minutes before the break, Andrich met from almost 25 meters - to the horror of his teammates, but into his own goal.

With the strange goal, the Union midfielder brought his team out of the rhythm of success and involuntarily recommended himself for the own goal of the year.

Frankfurt took advantage of the short period of weakness of the Berliners ice cold and put on by Kostic and again Silva.

It was already the 21st goal of the season for the Portuguese.

On the defensive, however, the Hessians remained vulnerable.

Above all, the absence of defense chief Martin Hinteregger, who did not get fit in time after a thigh injury, made itself felt.

Kruse took advantage of this again, who in stoppage time in the first half came completely free to the header at the far post and overcame Trapp with an arc lamp.

After the change, the home side took the pace a little out of the game - and Union was no longer as powerful.

Still, there were still opportunities on both sides.

Frankfurt's Daichi Kamada (60th) just missed the target with a low shot, in direct return Pohjanpalo failed to Trapp.

Substitute Keita Endo (68th) did not put the ball in the Eintracht goal either, Andrich (87th) only hit the crossbar.

So Chandler was allowed to set the final point for the Frankfurters in stoppage time.
