Oldenburg (dpa) - A bitch from Lower Saxony was a stowaway on a horse trailer in the direction of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - and jumped on the highway on the way.
The animal caused a stir on the A28 for a short time, as the police announced on Saturday.
Ayla, the runaway's name, had found her way unnoticed on the buyer's horse trailer while selling horses on a farm in Uplengen in the district of Leer.
"At the height of Westerstede, Ayla jumped out of the trailer at full speed through the tarpaulin," said the police.
Attentive road users would have brought the driver of the trailer to a stop.
"He was surprised, he had bought a horse and not a dog," it said.
Ayla was meanwhile on her way through the traffic towards home.
Fortunately, nothing happened.
The police finally found the dog crouching on a game fence and caught her with a dog catching sling.
Ayla was returned to her relieved owners.
