March 20, 2021 ArcelorMittal communicated to the trade unions the restarting of some plants at the Taranto steel plant, taking a step back from yesterday's advances to the RSU and today's press release that formalized a "reduction in its production levels and a temporary slowdown of the investment plans "until Invitalia pays the 400 million agreed in the partnership agreement of 10 December last.

The trade unions themselves communicate this.

The new running set-up, with the three blast furnaces at full capacity, actually modifies the directives previously communicated.

The RSU Fim and Fiom asked for a detailed meeting to find out about the future running conditions.

With regard to central maintenance workers, "the company - the trade unions specify - restored the number of the workforce before the change on Friday evening".

As regards the contract, at the moment "only some activities are resuming. On Monday - conclude Fim and Fiom - we will ask the company for a focus to oblige it to respect the commitments undertaken with the contract and the implementation of the environmental plan".

Uilm maintains that "the company retracts the provisions" and that the restarting of the plants will have as a consequence "the reduction in the number of redundant workers in the workshops and warehouses. The production activity of the plant can therefore continue regularly".

"We await - observes the territorial secretariat of Ugl Metalmeccanici - the evolution of the situation, once again calling the company to respect the agreements signed and to safeguard workers and plants".
